People both sides of border to benefit from medical and social care trials

People from both sides of the border will benefit from new research in health and social care that has been granted funding of almost €9m.

The money is coming from the EU, with matching funding from the north and south of Ireland.

The research trials will examine areas such as youth mental health, aging, diabetes, obesity, asthma, stroke and pregnancy.

Professor Geraldine McCarthy, a HSE community psychiatrist, has been telling Ocean FM News how these trials will actually help people:
