People on a pilot planning scheme in Leitrim are to be given an exemption from development contribution fees.
Around 15 people hoping to build their own homes are part of the scheme which was set up to try and find a new type of septic tank that meets modern standards.
Many septic tanks in the county no longer meet new EU standards brought in in 2010 due to the poor soil quality in Leitrim.
Finally a solution to this problem was found last month but families were informed that tne new system comes with a price tag of €35,000 plus vat to install it.
Leitrim Councillor Sinead Guckian says some people won't be able to afford this but for those who do - she has ensured that they will not be have to pay development contribution fees:
