People urged to avail of rural services to help deter crime

People urged to avail of rural services to help deter crime

People in the North West are urged to use their local services to help keep communitities safe.

That's the message from Inspector Padraic Burke of Ballymote Garda Station following a well-attended community engagement meeting in Loftus Hall this week.

It included talks by a number of agencies including Muintir na Tíre, the HSE, Pieta House, Teagasc and Sligo Cancer Care.

Speaking to Ocean FM News following Wednesday night's meeting, Inspector Padraic Burke said tackling crime is not just a Garda problem - it's a community problem:

Inspector Burke is also drawing people's attention to the Garda Victim's Office which is based in Carrick-on-Shannon in county Leitrim.

He says this service is there to help any victim of crime in the Sligo Leitrim division:
