The visit of local politicians to America for St. Patrick's Day keeps ex-pats in touch with home, according to the Sligo Association of New York.

Cathaoirligh from Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo county councils are travelling to New York for St. Patrick's Day and other official functions over the next week.

Fine Gael's Hubert Keaney and council CEO Ciaran Hayes will be representing Sligo at a dinner dance on Saturday night and in the parade itself.

Speaking to Ocean FM spokesperson for the Sligo Association,  Colette Connolly says the visit is also great opportunity to sell Sligo abroad.
