Poll shows two sitting MEPs set to regain seats

Two sitting MEPs look set to regain their seats in the upcoming European elections in the Midlands- North West constituency.

 

A Sunday Independent/ Ireland Thinks opinion poll shows that Maria Walsh of Fine Gael is set to top the poll with 12.5% of voters saying they would give her their first preference vote.

The party has faced criticism for its approach to the elections with Maria Walsh and former jockey Nina Carberry it’s only candidates in the constituency.

 

Incidentally, Regina Doherty (Dublin) and Seán Kelly (Ireland South), also of Fine Gael look both set top the poll in their areas.

Independent candidate Luke “Ming” Flanagan is hot on the heels of Ms. Walsh as he has recorded 12.1% in the poll.

 

Elsewhere, former Minister for Agriculture and Fianna Fáil candidate Barry Cowen is third in the poll on 10.5% while there is just 0.3% separating Aontú’s Peadar Tóibín (7.5%) and Michelle Gildernew (7.2%) in fourth and fifth place respectively.

 

The European elections take place on Friday, June 7th with five seats up for grabs in the Midlands- North West consistency.
