A licensed premises in the north west has become the first to be closed by gardai under new Covid enforcement powers.
An Garda Siochana said the closure order followed repeated engagement by local gardai.
Gardai carried out thousands of inspections over the weekend.
They say the vast majority of premises were compliant with public health guidelines and regulations.
But they say that despite repeated engagement with one premises in the north west, they continued to observe breaches.
These included persistent non-compliance with the requirement to serve a substantial meal.
The result -- the local Garda superintendent issued an Immediate Closure Order for the remainder of the date in question.
Gardai have declined to publicly say where the premises is located.
However, a file will be prepared for consideration by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Also in the north west region, a hotel premises inspected at 9:20pm was found to have about 100 persons in a function room with no social distancing, no food served, groups of 12 or more gathered at tables, with a number of people intoxicated in the room.
A lounge downstairs had about 50 persons drinking, similarly with a reception area while, outside, car loads of people began arriving and had to be turned away.
Also, a check at a licenced premises at 8:30pm found little evidence of food being consumed although there were about 80 people on the premises drinking alcohol.
There were no times on a contact-tracing register, no order book, nine individual invoices had an average of three meals on each, with dates changed.
And on an inspection of the kitchen, no food was being cooked.
