The president of Ireland Michael D Higgins is to visit Ballisodare, Co Sligo, next April.
He will arrive on the afternoon of Friday April 20 for a ceremony marking the official naming of Martin Savage Bridge in the village.
A letter from Aras an Uachtarain confirming the President's acceptance of the invitation to come to Ballisodare was read out at a meeting of Sligo County Council this afternoon.
Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy told Ocean FM News it will be a very special occasion for Ballisodare and the Sligo area.
