President signs Bill for Sligo Leitrim TD to become Minister

A Sligo Leitrim TD can officially take up office as a junior minister next week following President Michael D Higgins signing new legislation.

Earlier today, President Higgins signed the Ministers and Secretaries and Ministerial, Parliamentary, Judicial and Court Offices (Amendment) Bill 2025, and it has now become law.

This has extended the number of Ministers of State from 20 to 23.

Independent Deputy Marian Harkin will now take up her position as Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science with special responsibility for Further Education, Apprenticeship, Construction and Climate Skills.
