A spokesman for the UN Secretary General has indicated that the family of Private Sean Rooney will soon be able to access information surrounding his death.
Private Rooney from Newtowncunningham in Donegal was serving with the UN peacekeeping force in the Lebanon, died after the vehicle he was driving came under fire in December 2022.
The shooting happened in the south of Lebanon, in an area controlled by Hezbollah.
His family have been critical of the UN for failing to respond to a request for information from the Dublin coroner that conducted an inquest into his death.
RTE are reporting that details of an UN investigation, was presented to the Irish government last year on the strict condition that it not be shared with any third parties.
