It’s emerged that detectives investigating the murder of Robert Wilkin whose body was found off Slieve League in July have taken over 200 statements in connection with the investigation.

Two people have been charged with the murder of Robert Wilkin, 21-year-old Nikita Burns, and 38-year-old Alan Vial.

They appeared separately via video link at Letterkenny District Court on Monday.

A solicitor representing one of the accused criticised the delays with the case.

The large number of statements have been taken by detectives piecing together the evidence gathered which includes over 200 exhibits.

It’s understood that sixteen interviews were conducted with the accused while six crime scenes were designated.

Gardaí say they expect that a file will be ready to go to the DPP’s office in two weeks’ time.

Solicitor for Nilita Burns, Mr Rory O’Brien, described delays from the DPP’s office as “outrageous”.
