Property tax changes will benefit the rich

A Leitrim Councillor is accusing the government of designing the local property tax in such a way that it will benefit the rich.

Changes announced last week included homes build from 2013 being included for payment.

It was also confirmed that a revaluation of properties will result in some households paying a greater amount on an annual basis.

Manorhamilton MD Councillor Padraig Fallon says regardless of what spin the government put on the LPT it's still a tax on the family home and the Government could have pursued other ways of generating revenue.
