Protections are being sought over any potential deployment of soldiers from Finner Camp to Ukraine.
Any ceasefire that may be agreed between Ukraine and Russia would likely result in occupied territories, which would need the presence of neutral peacekeepers.
North West MEP Ciaran Mullooly recently spoke with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and highlighted that Irish troops must not be deployed to border regions or other danger zones in Ukraine.
There are concerns that the EU could request that Irish forces take up such a role.
However MEP Mullooly stated that it is crucial that whatever measures are taken by the EU, that Ireland maintains its neutrality.
