Record figures see almost half of Ireland's electricity produced from wind

Record figures see almost half of Ireland's electricity produced from wind

A founding member of Wind Energy Ireland believes the fact that almost half the country's electricity used last month came from wind is a positive story in a challenging time for energy.

In record figures, 41% of Ireland's electricity was generated from wind, which and is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 320,000 Irish families.

The figures come as Irish consumers also used more wind energy in Quarter 4 in 2022 than electricity.

Sheila Layden, director of Energy Pro, who specialise in the analysis and management of operational wind farms across the country says despite the energy sector encountering many obstacles, it continues to have a strong say in the Irish energy market:
