Fresh doubts cast over future of local Post offices

 

The general sectary of the Irish Postmaster Union has expressed concern over the future of a number of North West Post Offices.

 

Ned O’ Hara says hundreds of post offices across the Country could go out of business this summer when a key state transition payment scheme is to be reduced.

With Bank of Ireland shutting 5 branches locally and Ulster Bank announcing that they are leaving the Irish Market it was hoped that post offices could provide more banking services.

Ned O’ Hara says that running small post rural post offices is no longer viable.  He predicts that many post offices may not be around to provide banking services if the transition payment is reduced and no further government are allocated to Post Offices:
