The National Transport Authority have released a statement regarding the removal of the bus stop in Collooney village.
They have said that they hope it is only a temporary measure.
The 981 Coolaney to Sligo Town bus was due to stop in the village following the commencement of the trial one way system.
The stop had previously been taken out of Collooney due to traffic congestion issues, with the only stop serving Collooney located at Quigley's shop.
The stop was back in Collooney last week, but was removed again after the bus couldn't get down the Main Street due to a high number of cars double-parked on both sides of the road.
The NTA's statement acknowledges that that route 981 should serve the stop on Barrack Road in the centre of Collooney, and that the stop at Quigley’s is too far of a walk for many passengers to access.
The statement goes on to say that TFI Local Link Donegal Sligo Leitrim are currently engaging with Sligo County Council in relation to this matter, and they are hopeful that an effective solution can be implemented to address these issues.
In conclusion, the NTA say that they are keen to reintroduce the Barrack Road stop to route 981 as soon as possible, but this cannot be done while buses continue to get blocked.
