Renewed calls to turn old railway line in North West into a Greenway

There are renewed calls for the old railway line from Athenry in Galway to Collooney in Sligo to be used for a Greenway.

 

While the All Island Strategic Rail Review was published this week, no timeline was given, and it's thought that closed lines could still be used for greenways in the interim.

A petition with over 26,000 signatures has been submitted to the Oireachtas Petitions Committee asking for a greenway to be considered on the closed railway route until such time as the railway might be re-opened.
