Revaluations of commercial and industrial properties in County Donegal

The process of revaluing commercial and industrial properties in County Donegal is beginning today.

The valuations will be used to calculate the rates to be paid to the county council.

Revaluations of commercial and industrial properties in counties Sligo and Leitrim have already taken place.

It's part of an ongoing process in which all non-domestic property in the country is being revalued.

The Valuation Office says revaluation will take account of current rental levels and will result in a more equitable distribution of commercial rates among ratepayers.

It is envisaged the new valuations will be published in September 2021 and become effective on January 1st 2022.

Declan Lavelle, of the Valuation Office, has been telling Ocean FM News what is happening now:

Mr Lavelle also outlines what will happen when the Valuation Office has the information it needs:

Meanwhile, neither the residential property nor agricultural land is rateable and are therefore not affected by the revaluation taking place at present.
