An online event aimed at revitalising the areas we live in is taking place on the 23rd and 24th of March.
RIOT Sligo, which stands for Reimagining Our Town, will explore how utilising the arts, our culture and creative industries can help in the regeneration and development of towns and cities like Sligo.
There have been similar initiatives where turning what can be perceived as a negative into a positive such as in Gothenburg, Sweden where the aim is to be 'the best city to be in when it rains'.
Dorothy Clarke is Director of Planning, Community and Economic Development with Sligo County Council.
Speaking to OceanFM News, she explains how people can get involved and that what's learned in Sligo can then be applied to other areas of Ireland.
