Rise in commencement notices in Sligo & Donegal, fall in Leitrim

The number of commencement notices received by the local authorities in Sligo and Donegal has increased exponentially.

In January, commencement notices for 50 homes in Sligo were issued, up from a total of 2 during the same period in 2023.

41 were issued by Donegal County Council, up from 18 twelve months ago.

The number has fallen in Leitrim, however with 3 issued compared to 6 in 2023.

Over 3,300 housing commencement notices were received by authorities across the country in January.

That’s an increase of 59% on the same month last year according to the Department of Housing.
