Road Haulage Association representative says increasing diesel costs would force hauliers off the road.

The decision not to increase excise duty on fuel has provided a life line to many road hauliers that's according to the north west representative  of the Irish Road Haulage Association.

Cuts to the excise duty were due to be scrapped from next week which would have resulted in diesel increasing  by 18 cent per litre.

Instead  a phased restoration of the rates will take place in three stages over the coming eight months.
