Calls have been made on Sligo County Council to carry out a road safety audit in Ballisodare following a recent accident which involved an elderly man being struck by a car. The man was treated by a doctor at the scene of the accident
In response to a motion by Independent Councillor, Marie Casserly, the local authority say they have made initial contact with Transport infrastructure Ireland to build a pedestrian crossing.
Councillor Casserly says locals have serious concerns over the speed of motorists coming into the village on all sides.

Concerns of speeding vehicles in the village were also raised two years ago. At the time Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy called for a Safety Improvement Scheme be put in place from Corhownagh Church to Ballisodare.
With Cllr. Marie Casserly saying that there was a need for further traffic calming on the section of road that’s already within a 50 kilometre per hour zone.
