RTÉ's North West correspondent Eileen Magnier to retire

Eileen Magnier has announced that she is to retire from her role as RTÉ’s North West correspondent after 34 years in the role.

Ms Magnier joined the broadcaster in 1985 before being appointed to the regional correspondent role in 1990, becoming the first female to hold the role in the process.

In a post on social media, she thanked all those who shared their stories across the region.

She has reported on a variety of events across counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

A native of Kilkenny, Ms Magnier will finish reporting on-air in May.
