Section of N56 remains closed this morning following road traffic accident

A section of the N56 in Co. Donegal remains closed this morning following a three-vehicle road traffic collision, involving a van and two cars, last night.

The incident took place on the Bruckless road just outside Dunkineely on Monday evening at around 5.40pm.

Two people received medical treatment following the incident and were taken to hospital for further treatment of their injuries.

The female driver of one of the cars (70’s) was conveyed to Sligo University Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

The male driver of the van (30’s) was conveyed to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment for injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.

Traffic management and diversions are in place. Drivers of HGVs are advised to avoid the area altogether and to travel via Ardara as the diversion route is quite narrow. The diversions in place are suitable for other traffic/smaller vehicles. Motorists are still being advised to take an alternative route if possible.

Investigations into last night's accident are ongoing.
