Selection convention unlikely to be held to replace Maguire

Fine Gael HQ have confirmed to Ocean FM news that they will engage in a process similar to the one used in the selection of Frank Feighan in selecting a new candidate to replace Sinead Maguire to contest the next general election.

In a statement released earlier the party thanked Cllr Maguire for her hard work and effort as a candidate since being selected more than a year ago.

They described her as diligent public representative and said they look forward to continuing to work with her in capacity as a Sligo County Councillor.

Laura Comiskey is the north west regional coordinator for Fine Gael.

She says the party will consider the Sligo-Leitrim Dáil ticket for the next General Election in the near future.
