SF's Pearse Doherty and Padraig MacLachlainn elected on the 1st count

Sinn Fein's Pearse Doherty and Padraig MacLachlainn have been elected on the first count in the Donegal Constituency.

Doherty received 21,044 first preference votes and McLoughlainn 13,891; the quota is 12,909 in the 5 seat constituency.

Speaking to OceanFM after the announcement, Deputy Doherty says the party's message 'resonated' with the voters.

Padraig MacLochlainn says being elected by the people is 'humbling but it's also a huge responsibility.'
