Sheep farmers urged to 'hold tight' when it comes to lamb prices

Sheep farmers have reacted angrily over what they say are attempts by factories to cut lamb prices over the weekend.

IFA National Sheep Chairman Sean Dennehy said agents were on the receiving end of farmer anger when plants tried to cut the price by another 30c on last week’s price.

He pointed out that this is despite the market being strong, with the Muslim fast period Ramadan set to continue for another three weeks, until June 15th.

Farmers are being advised to market lambs only when they are fully fit, as severe price sanctions are being imposed on underweight lambs and hoggets in nearly all of the plants.
