Shock as customers find well-known McCormacks businesses closed

Businesses operated by the well-known county Leitrim McCormack business family have gone into receivership.

There are fears the jobs of up to 200 people could be affected by the move.

Notices on the front of many of the McCormack facilities today confirm that trading has ceased and receivers Grant Thornton have been appointed as Managers.

McCormacks garages, petrol stations and Mace stores are synonymous with Sligo, Leitrim and right across the north west providing many jobs in the local area.

Today's there's a huge sense of shock locally as notices on their premises in Sligo reveal that the stores have ceased trading with immediate effect.

Aengus Burns and Michael McAteer of Grant Thornton have been appointed receivers according to a notice on the shop window of the premises on the Mailcoach road.

Ocean FM News understands other businesses connected with the family are affected but we are awaiting further details from Grant Thornton on the situation.

The McCormack family originally started a family run business in Drumshanbo in county Leitrim where they still have a garage a store.

In the 1980s the first petrol station was opened on the Mail Coach road in Sligo and since then they have expanded providing fuel services right across Sligo, Leitrim into Cavan and even further afield.

Today's notice that these stores have closed is a huge blow for the region as these people in Sligo told Ocean FM News.
