A new report by KPMG for Wind Energy Ireland suggests there could be significant growth in the sector.
22% of rates income for Leitrim County Council now comes from wind farms; this figure is 8.6% for Donegal and 6.3% in Sligo.
The report says close to two thousand more jobs will be added to the sector in the next decade.
Russell Smyth, who's a partner at KPMG, says the amount of tax paid is set to more than double over the coming decade.
