A Midlands North West MEP says he has now requested the European Commission to examine what he says is the 'ongoing failure' to provide a safe drinking water supply for the 13,000 people on the Lough Talt Scheme.
The supply, which serves people in South Sligo and part of North Mayo is currently subject to a Boil Water Notice because of the presence of cryptosporidium.
It's the second time a Boil Water Notice has had to be issued for the supply.
Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy says if this happened in a large urban centre, something would have been done long ago, adding that sometimes it takes EU pressure to get issues such as this resolved.
