Sligo Bay RNLI respond to three weekend call outs

Sligo Bay RNLI responded to three call outs over the weekend.

While two were genuine, one turned out to be a hoax.

On Saturday afternoon, two separate callouts were received.

The first was to a boarder thought to be in difficulty off Coney Island.

The crew picked them up in the channel and brought them to shore and they did not require any further assistance.

Having returned to training, a second callout was received to something close to one of the pillars on the route to Coney Island.

The light was fading, and the caller reported spotting a large dark shape .The volunteers launched again, but Rescue 118 confirmed it was a tree.

The third callout of the weekend was received at around 17.30pm yesterday evening, to a person in the water on Sligo town. The crew launched and proceeded to Sligo town.

However, they were stood down shortly afterwards as the Gardai confirmed it was a hoax call.

In a statement, Sligo Bay RNLI say that if you think someone is in difficulty, don't hesitate to call as every minute counts.

While both callouts on Saturday were genuine callouts, unfortunately, a hoax call is an extreme waste of time and resources, so please think before you dial.
