Sligo cathedral's Easter ceremonies will be broadcast to Europe

Sligo cathedral's Easter ceremonies will be broadcast to Europe

The Easter ceremonies taking place this weekend in the cathedral of the catholic Diocese of Elphin in Sligo will be at the centre of national and European attention.

The Mass for Easter Sunday at 10.00am will be broadcast on RTÉ One with delayed transmission at 11.00am on RTÉ Radio 1 Extra.

It will also be broadcast throughout Europe as part of a Eurovision project,

The Easter vigil ceremonies from the Cathedral on Saturday at 11pm will also be broadcast on RTE.

It's estimated the broadcast of the Easter Sunday mass could have more than two million viewers across Europe.

The Bishop of Elphin, Kevin Doran, says it's a unique way of joining with other Christians in the Easter celebrations.
