Sligo Cllr calls for introduction of windfall tax in Budget

A Sligo Councillor is calling on the government to introduce a windfall tax in the upcoming budget.

 

Its thought the introduction would stop Energy Company's accumulating increased profits while ordinary people cannot afford to heat their homes.

Local councillor Marie Casserly raised the motion on the current energy crisis in the return sitting of Sligo County Council.

 

The motion was met with unanimous support by the other members of Sligo county council.

This week saw the announcement that the Nordsteam pipeline that transports gas from Russia into Europe would not reopened as scheduled leading to possible future price increases.

 

Speaking to OceanFm news cllr Casserly says funds from a windfall tax should be ring-fenced for redistribution over the winter to those most in need:
