A Sligo Councillor has confirmed an upgrade of the water pipe supply for households on 3 kilometres of a 5 kilometre stretch between Ballisodare and Carraroe will be upgraded in 2023.
Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy has previously called for cast iron pipes which are currently in place to be upgraded.
A date for the pipes to be installed is yet to be confirmed. However, the upgrade will see new plastic pipes installed.
Recently, the pipes burst twice during cold weather in December which resulted in water being cut off for over 24 hours leading to disruption for households, businesses and farmers.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, Councillor Healy says the new pipes will be of much relief to the local community:
