Sligo Councillor says Martin McGuinness leaves a significant legacy

A long-serving Sinn Fein politician in Sligo has paid tribute to Martin McGuinness saying he has left a huge legacy in relation to political life on the island of Ireland.

Councillor Sean McManus is a close personal friend of the Sinn Fein Northern leader who announced his retirement from politics last night for health reasons.

He will not contest the northern elections.

Councillor McManus played a central part in developing the party's current peace strategy and worked with Martin McGuinness as a senior member of Sinn Fein's negotiating team.
