Sligo Councillor says HSE will benefit from paying student nurses

The decision taken by the government to provide Pay for student nurses during the COVID-19 crisis has received a warm welcome.

The INMO had campaigned intensely for employment opportunities for student nurses for several weeks, as many were unable to work other jobs due to cross-infection risks.

It now seems likely that the student nurses, including interns, will now be offered contracts as healthcare assistants.

South Sligo Councillor, Dara Mulvey  has described the move 'as the proper thing to do'.  He added that the HSE could benefit long term from as they stand a better chance of retaining the students when they graduate in the future:
