A Sligo Councillor has stepped down from the Joint Policing Committee in the county.
Independent Councillor Michael Clarke submitted his resignation at a meeting of the Council yesterday after submitting a motion saying he has concerns it's a waste of resources.
He received Council support for his motion to get a breakdown on the number of people in the Sligo Leitrim division who were wrongfully summonsed by the Gardai as revealed in March.
A Garda error led to over 140,000 people nationally being incorrectly summonsed and 15,000 subsequently appeared in court and had a penalty imposed on them.
However, Councillor Clarke says he was not allowed to raise the same issue at a recent JPC meeting which he feels is the correct forum for issues like this:
