A Sligo Councillor says confirmation that building costs have risen more in the north west than any other part of the Country is more bad news in particular for first time builders across the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
Cllr Paul Taylor is warning potential builders to fully cost what any potential build and not to find themselves in a situation where their funds run out due to increased building costs and the project is left unfinished.
The Ballymote Tubbercurry Councillor was reacting to findings from Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland.
Building costs have risen by 26 per cent in the local region compared to an average figure nationally of 21 percent and just 14 percent in Dublin.
Speaking to Ocean FM News Cllr Taylor says even providing a quote for construction projects is almost impossible due to the rising costs and the Fianna Fáil Councillor has called for tailored supports need to be introduced for first time buyers.
