Sligo Councillors find new way to recoup costs of roads damaged by forestry work

Sligo councillors have come up with a new way of recouping the cost of repairing damage to roads caused by forestry plantation.

They have now decided to take action through development contributions, which form part of the conditions for granting plannng permission.

While forestry is exempt from planning permission, councillors in Sligo have decided to increase the contribution fees for access onto a public road which does require planning.

It would apply to any plantation over two hectares.

The proposal was made by Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor:
