Sligo councillors request Garda investigation into alleged postal voter fraud

Sligo county councillors have unanimously passed a motion calling for a garda investigation into alleged postal voter fraud in the Ballymote/Tubbercurry/West Sligo area before the last local election.

 

The motion was put forward at yesterday's meeting of the council by Independent Socialist Councillor Declan Bree and was seconded by People Before Profit Councillor Gino O Boyle.

Postal votes are given to those unable to go a polling station, usually because of some disability.

 

However, it's been alleged that among those on the postal voter list before the last local election in the Ballymote/Tubbercurry/West Sligo area were people who were abroad, including some who had been playing Gaelic football.

Cllr Bree told Ocean FM News why he felt it was important that a full Garda investigation takes place into what happened:
