Sligo councillor says Development Plan must be consistent with other plans and national policy

Sligo County Councillors are to hold a special meeting to discuss variations to the County Development Plan.

At a meeting of councillors yesterday, there were differences of opinion among councillors about holding the special meeting.

One of the difficulties facing councillors at their meeting yesterday is the current uncertainty over when meetings might be held because of the changing Covid-19 situation.

Councillors have until November 2nd to agree to the changes but there is no indication if this date might be extended.

And to adhere to regulations and guidelines, it now costs about €5,000 to hold a council meeting.

Also, a full review of the County Development Plan is to begin next year.

Some councillors felt the proposed variations should have been agreed to yesterday.

But Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy said this would be 'a monumental mistake.'

Cllr Gilroy also says it's important that there is consistency between the council and other development agencies when it comes to the language used and objectives aimed for:
