Sligo County Council failed to agree on a budget for the second time

Sligo County Council failed to agree on a budget for the second time

Sligo county councillors will meet again next Friday evening in a final attempt to agree on a budget for the coming year.

It follows a meeting yesterday evening lasting about 10 minutes during which councillors voted 9-6 against adopting the budget.

Fine Gael, Independent Socialist and Sinn Fein councillors voted against; Fianna Fail councillors and Independent Councillors Joe Queenan and Michael Clarke voted in favour.

If a budget is not adopted by Sunday, the council faces the possibility of abolition and the appointment by the minister of a commissioner to run the local authority.
