Sligo County Council is to increase the Local Property Tax by 15%.
A motion submitted by Independent Councillor Joe Queenan to increase the rate by the maximum allowed amount was seconded by Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor at this weeks meeting; the final vote was 13 for and 4 against.
A proposal was submitted earlier in the day by Independent Councillor Declan Bree and seconded by People Before Profit's Gino O'Boyle that sought to reduce the rate by 15%.
This however was defeated.
Speaking to OceanFM News, Councillor Bree says that tax as a whole is 'unfair and unjust.'
