Sligo County Council to appeal to Government for turf ban reversal

Sligo County Council is to write to the Government, calling for a reversal to the ban on the sale of turf.

A ban on the sale of turf in shops or online has been in place since last week.

People with turf-cutting rights are still able to cut turf for their own use and may gift or sell turf.

But speaking to Ocean FM news, Cllr Thomas Healy says penalising anyone in a cost of living crisis is ridiculous.

Cllr Healy says until such time as there’s a clear alternative, the ban should be shelved:
