The Local Property Tax in County Sligo is set to remain unchanged for the next two years.
Sligo County Councillors have today voted to retain the 15% rate increase agreed in 2019.
It means that the Local Property Tax will remain at this rate for the lifetime of the current
council.
Of the 15 Councillors present at today’s meeting, 12 voted in favour of retaining the rate while 3 voted against.
The move was opposed by Independent Cllr Declan Bree, who called for a 15% reduction in the rate, citing the cost-of-living emergency being experienced by local homes and businesses:

Councillors who were in favour of the move outlined how reducing the rate would effectively mean removing vital local services.
Fine Gael Cllr Sinead Maguire says it’s imperative that the rate remained unchanged as funding that otherwise wouldn’t be available to Sligo is sourced from this tax:
