Latest tally figures from the Sligo-Drumcliffe electoral area show Independent Councillor Marie Casserly to be closing the gap on Fianna Fail's Donal Gilroy.
With the majority of boxes in the electoral now tallied, Gilroy has 1,235 first preferences, followed by Casserly with 1,095.
Sinn Féin's Thomas Healy is expected to top the poll in Sligo-Drumcliffe with Thomas Walsh (Fine Gael) also doing well.
