Sligo Gardai have praised the efforts of a couple for saving a young person's life on New Year's Eve in Sligo town.
In the early hours of January 1st, a young person was seen by a passing couple in a distressed state in the Garavogue River.
The couple brought the person to safety and called the Emergency Services.
They stayed with the person until the Gardaí arrived and when they were then brought to Sligo University Hospital where the young person is now recovering

Gardai says the couple's timely intervention was enough to save this person's life.
They says the couple did extremely well and did not put themselves in danger while dealing with the situation as it was unfolding.
