Sligo landowner tells of dog attack on sheep

Dog attacks on sheep are usually something one associates with lambing time, earlier in the year.

But recently there have been attacks on sheep in areas of Sligo and Leitrim.

Last week in the Rosses Point area outside Sligo, several lambs and a ram were killed by a black and tan coloured dog about the size of a German Shepherd or slightly smaller.

It was the second time the dog was spotted on the land, which the sheep farmer had rented.

Leitrim man Kevin Comiskey, who's on the IFA sheep committee, says many farmers believe that once sheep are attacked, they are never the same, even if they are not injured.
