A Sligo publican has described as 'a very positive move' the passing of a bill which could pave the way for alcohol to be served on Good Friday.
The bill was passed unanimously after the Government made amendments to make sure the new law applies to pubs and not just hotels.
The legislation now goes to the Dáil where it'll be debated after the summer recess.
Welcoming the passing of the bill, Imelda Henry, who runs the Blue Lagoon in Sligo town says the move will alleviate the problem of alcohol abuse through the sale of cheap alcohol on Holy Thursday.
Ms Henry, who also works with the Vintners Federation of Ireland said that should the bill be passed into law, it would provide a boost to publicans around the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.
