Students from a Sligo School will be rearing a calf for 18 months.
A group from Sligo grammar School were chosen along with four others to take part in the Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition from this September.
The aim of the competition is to teach students the care and attention that is required to produce high quality beef.
Genevieve Cox, Laura West, Sarah Cunningham, Rosie Wright, Emma O'Gorman and Rachel harte are the students will be taking care of the calf until 2021 when it will be slaughtered.
