Sligo TD calls for clarity on outsourcing of smear tests to clear backlogs

There's a call for further clarity over the laboratories used for cervical screening tests.

Fianna Fail Sligo Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry says questions need to be answered about the use of third party testing facilities to clear backlogs.

Medlab in Dublin confirmed over the weekend that when a laboratory is under pressure with smear testing it avails of third party testing facilities with a sister company in the UK.

Deputy MacSharry says the Minister needs to clarify how exactly this works and whether the Health Minister knows about it:
